One of the biggest challenges for people today is losing weight. Lets
face it, with most people eating out 2-5 times a week it can be very
hard to lose weight.
We’ve all heard of the usual things to lose weight..
exercise, watch the carbs and sweets you eat. But what does that all
mean? What food are good to eat and what food should you stay away from?
With all the info on diets out there it’s very hard to find simple ways
to lose weight. In this post I will go over the usual culprits that
keep the pounds on and keep them coming year after year. I’ll also show
you some quick methods to help you change the way you eat. Swapping one
thing for another can help you lose and maintain a good weight.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Lose Weight while avoiding Sweets
We all know that cookies, candy and soda are bad for us. But many of
us don’t know that almost everything we eat usually has High Fructose
Corn Syrup in it. That means hidden calories and it also means a spike
in your blood sugar. Most people think blood sugar only applies to
diabetics or those needing to watch their blood sugar. However, the key
is to keep your blood sugar stabilized so you don’t have a spike and
then crash later on. Foods like cookies cake, ice cream, even energy
drinks cause your blood sugar to spike. And in turn makes you feel bad.
The snack food industry(yes, it IS an industry) makes billions of
dollars a year because these food are simple and quick.
Knowing the difference between Good carbs and bad carbs while trying to lose weight
Any carbs you get from processed foods is bad. Crackers, breads,
cookies and the like are bad carbs. They again have hidden calories that
cause you go gain weight.
Pretty much any type of fruit or veggie is free rein. These are your
good carbs that will help stabilize blood sugar and help you shed
pounds. Pre-packaged dinners have bad crabs as well. Even the so-called
“healthy” ones are bad for you. They're usually loaded with sodium. Not only do they have carbs they also
have a ton of ingredients most can’t even pronounce. If you don’t know
what it is, changes are your body doesn’t either.
Good choices
Making good choices in your diet doesn’t have to be a nightmare, and
you don’t even have to eat bad tasting food. A good rule of thumb is to
eat one ingredient foods. Fish, chicken, turkey, eggs are all one
ingredient foods, they are high in protein and will help you stay full
longer. A great snack is a sweet potato with a little bit of butter and a
sprinkle of cinnamon. It’s a great snack or a side to go along with
your chicken. Swap one bad item a day with one good item. Swapping a
cookie for a yogurt. Creamy dressing for a vinaigrette or no dressing.
Another great tip is to use a small salad plate for meals instead of a
larger plate. This will help with portion control and allow you to
consume less calories. A great way to revve up your metabolism is to
drink a cup of cold ice water right after you get up in the morning.
Your system will have to work harder to warm the water and thus jump
start your metabolism. Almonds are a great snack as well, they have protein and are low in calories. Just be sure to pick the one with no or low sodium.
Meal replacements are a great source of vitamins and minerals to help
your quest in weight loss and help you maintain that weight. There are a
ton of great tasting meal replacement shakes on the market today. With
just as many ways to prepare them. Adding in a banana or mixed berries
adds more vitamins and will help you feel fuller longer. These are quick
and easy to make, 2 shakes a day to lose weight and 1 shake to maintain
your weight. And then one simple sensible dinner.
